Google is [still] magic

Anyone who knows me, knows that i’m a Google fanboy. A gmail member since 2004, an Android user since 2009 (yes, that’s my first phone pictured above), and a Google Workspace user till I die. Of course this would roll into how our kids experience technology (Android tablets and chrome books) and now with home school on the table, Google is involved here as well.

I’d never really had an excuse to experiment with Google Classroom, but during lockdown, the boys school utilised it to assign schoolwork, communicate with the class, and do the whole online schooling thing. For the most part, it was great, but I think that when you live in a technology bubble, you sometimes forget that not everyone uses tech the same way you do.

Many of the parents couldn’t figure out google classroom, but it wasn’t made easier when teachers were uploading PDFs and PPTs instead of using native google formats like Docs and Slides. The format made me curious though, and I was waiting for an excuse to play with it. What better opportunity than now?

So far, there are a few elements that we’re getting used to (we’ve only set up two subjects so far) but i’m quietly hopeful that this may be a key to how we can stay on track with all the ideas, printouts and activities we have planned!
