This addition of the book was written by Jennifer Armstrong.
It’s about a man called Shackleton who takes 28 people to Antarctica for an expedition, but then their ship breaks. However, Shackleton, the leader, manages to get the crew back safely on his boat Endurance.
It’s actually really interesting because when they first arrive in Antarctica, they find lots of seals and penguins and islands that nobody has ever discovered before. Imagine taking the world’s first step on unexplored land in this massive world. It was a lot to get used to eating seal steaks and penguin meat, but they got used to it after a while. Also, they had lots of sled dogs so they could use the sleds around, but they always had to feed their dogs really well so they wouldn’t freeze. Seventeen dogs died, so they went to a dog shack and got more puppies, but because it was winter, they had to feed their puppies half a kilo of lard every day to make sure they didn’t freeze to death.
In one of the bits of this true story, it said that a leopard seal was charging after them, and it was just flopping on the ground, so it wasn’t very fast, but it was surprisingly fast for what it looked like it was doing. The people or the leopard seal. What happened? I guess you will find out!
It’s truly an amazing story and based on a real-life event, and I definitely suggest it to anybody who likes true stories, interesting stories, etc. It also has unexpected plot twists, like how two of the men arrived at South Georgia Island and then the rest of the crew were still on Elephant Island in Antarctica. Mistake or purpose? I guess that’s another thing to look out for when you read the book!
The people were amazing, and this story was truly brilliant. I would love to listen to another audiobook like that again because it was so interesting and had a lot of good dialogue. It also taught me that if I ever get stranded in a cold place, baby penguins are actually really tasty and taste like chicken, but you never want to go for the adult penguins because they taste really rough, chewy, and almost impossible to swallow. Thank you for reading, and if you want to know more, you can read the book that I’ve told you about because there are a lot more interesting things in there that I haven’t brought out.
